The 2027 Arctic Cat Alterra 110 is a small, fuel-injected ATV for a young rider learning on private or otherwise permitted off-road terrain. In White, the U.S. model A2027ASC2CUSW starts at $3,399 MSRP. It has a 112cc engine, automatic transmission with reverse and an adjustable speed-limiting setup for an adult to manage. Those are useful ingredients, but the first buying test is much simpler: does this particular child fit the machine and its age guidance?
This is a researched buyer’s review, not a ride test. Figures below refer to the exact 2027 U.S. Alterra 110 product page and specifications. Arctic Cat’s 2027 lineup announcement confirms the new 112cc EFI youth model. Some catalog teaser text still calls it an Alterra 90; the individual model number and spec sheet resolve that copy error. It is not the older 90cc carbureted machine.
The parts that make learning easier
The air-cooled four-stroke single uses electronic fuel injection, rather than a carburetor. For a family that rides irregularly, that avoids one familiar carburetor maintenance headache, although fuel still needs proper storage care. Electric start and a CVT mean the rider needn’t learn clutch coordination on day one. The selector has forward, neutral and reverse, a genuine convenience when a novice noses into a dead end. The rear wheels are chain-driven; there is no 4WD system to lean on when ground gets difficult.
Arctic Cat supplies an adjustable throttle and speed-limiting governor. Treat those as tools for a parent to set a sensible starting pace, not as a way to make unsupervised riding safe. There is also a tall orange visibility flag, a halogen headlight and a taillight. Our product image is cropped around the ATV, so the tall flag in Arctic Cat’s original studio image falls outside the frame. Lights improve conspicuity but do not turn a youth ATV into a road vehicle or make night riding a good beginner exercise.
No current U.S. horsepower rating appears in Arctic Cat’s product specifications. The approximately 8 hp field in our comparison catalog is an unverified estimate, not a claimed output or test measurement. For a first ATV, a rider’s reach to the controls, the limiter setting and the riding area are better questions than a guessed peak horsepower number.
Size, suspension and the limits of a youth chassis
At 35.4 inches wide with a 37-inch wheelbase, the Alterra 110 is appreciably smaller than an adult utility ATV. The manufacturer lists 265 lb dry, which excludes some operating fluids and cannot be compared directly with a rival’s curb weight. Have the intended rider sit on one, engine off, and check whether both feet sit securely in the footwells and whether the throttle, brake levers and handlebar are comfortable at full steering lock. A minimum age is not a substitute for fit.
Single A-arms give 2.8 inches of front travel; the rear swingarm provides 2.9 inches. Front drums and a single rear hydraulic disc provide the brakes, and the parking brake is a lockable hand lever. The tires are 20 x 7-8 in front and 19 x 8-8 behind, on steel wheels. Published ground clearance is 5.9 inches. These numbers point to an entry-level machine for modest terrain, not a little rock crawler. Keep speed low over ruts and roots, and don’t confuse the independent front suspension described in the feature copy with long-travel sport suspension.
There are no front or rear cargo racks in the 2027 specification and no published towing capacity. Our catalog’s zero tow figure means not rated, not permission to tow zero pounds of trailer. It is a single-seat youth ATV, not a passenger or hauling vehicle. The 1.4-gallon tank does not imply a fixed riding range because pace, load and terrain change consumption.
Age guidance, price and warranty
Arctic Cat states in the exact 2027 specification that the Alterra 110 is made for riders age 10 and older. Before buying, check the warning label and current operator’s manual on the actual machine, local riding rules and the child’s judgment and physical ability. Direct adult supervision, a properly fitted helmet and eye protection, other protective gear and formal ATV training matter more than the number printed on the fender. Arctic Cat specifically recommends training and reading the manual. Do not carry a passenger or ride on public roads.
The advertised $3,399 is the U.S. MSRP, not an out-the-door amount. Arctic Cat’s pricing panel separately lists $400 freight and a $500 dealer setup fee. That makes $4,299 if those displayed amounts are applied, still before taxes, title, registration and any additional dealer charges. The manufacturer says the dealer determines the final selling price, so compare written quotes with all charges shown.
The standard warranty is 12 months. A separate Fall Adventures promotion advertises a 24-month limited factory warranty for qualifying 2027 Alterra purchases from August 1 through September 30, 2026. The promotion has eligibility conditions and an end date; it should not be mistaken for the permanent factory warranty.
Is this the right first ATV?
The Alterra 110’s case is straightforward: EFI, reverse, parent-adjustable speed and a visible safety flag in a compact package. Its limitations are just as clear: short suspension travel, chain-drive 2WD, no utility ratings and a real transaction price above the headline MSRP. If the rider is younger, consider a correctly sized lower-age-class machine such as the 2026 Suzuki QuadSport Z50; a 110 is not an automatic upgrade simply because it will last longer as a child grows.
