The real question is whether that compact work package is sufficient, or whether the equipment missing from the base trim will send you up to the Limited.

A 56.4-inch work machine, not a mini full-size Prowler
Width is 56.4 inches, wheelbase 72 inches, and overall length 106.4 inches. That footprint is the Prowler 500’s main appeal if your shed, trailer, gates or access routes are tight. It is still wider than a 50-inch-restricted trail, so check actual local limits instead of assuming “midsize” means legal on every route. The 1,165 lb figure is dry weight, not a fueled, ready-to-work curb weight, and is therefore not directly comparable with a rival’s wet-weight claim.
The bench is rated for two occupants. That is a meaningful difference from a three-across utility model if a third worker regularly rides along, but a benefit when you want a narrower vehicle. There is a tilt steering wheel, under-hood storage and a glove box for smaller gear. Arctic Cat calls the enclosed storage a selling point, but the specification does not assign a volume to it; check the spaces in person if a particular tool case must fit. The base model has a dump box rather than an enclosed cargo compartment.
Front and rear double A-arms provide 6.9 and 6.8 inches of travel, respectively. Ground clearance is 10 inches, and the base Marsh Green machine rides on 25-inch tires and powder-coated steel wheels. Those are reasonable dimensions for property tracks and measured trail use, not a promise that it will carry a full load over deep ruts at the same pace as an empty sport SxS. A standard skid plate is listed. Dual front hydraulic discs and a single rear hydraulic disc handle braking; park is selected through the transmission.
Engine, 4WD and the equipment you do not get
The 443cc liquid-cooled SOHC single has electronic fuel injection and drives through an automatic CVT with high, low, neutral, reverse and park. Engine braking is listed as standard. Low range and controlled speed matter when maneuvering a loaded bed or backing a trailer. Electric selection switches between 2WD and 4WD, and a selectable front differential lock provides another option for low-traction ground. The rear differential is listed as locked, so expect a different turning feel than a turf-mode utility machine on delicate grass.
Arctic Cat does not publish a horsepower figure for this exact 2027 U.S. configuration. Our catalog uses approximately 30 hp as an unverified estimate; it is not an Arctic Cat rating or a result from a dynamometer. It would be misleading to declare this model more or less powerful than a rival based on a guessed figure. Have a dealer demonstrate the machine with the kind of load and terrain you actually expect to use, where possible.
The base steering specification is tilt rack-and-pinion, not electronic power steering. There is also no factory winch in the base equipment list. Those omissions matter more to a buyer who regularly makes tight, slow turns with cargo or pulls themselves out of muddy ground than to one who uses maintained lanes. Do not mistake the standard front diff lock for EPS, or the 1,500 lb tow rating for a winch rating.
What 500 lb in the bed really means
Arctic Cat specifies a 500 lb dump-bed load capacity, 1,000 lb maximum vehicle weight capacity and 1,500 lb towing through a standard 2-inch receiver. The bed measures 29.5 x 46 x 12 inches. Those three ratings describe different constraints; they are not a combined 3,000 lb allowance. Two occupants, equipment, accessories, bed load and trailer tongue weight all have to respect the current operator’s manual and vehicle labels. Do not fill the bed to 500 lb without checking what remains of the overall vehicle capacity after people and installed gear are counted.
The 8.5-gallon fuel tank gives some room between fill-ups, but there is no reliable fixed range to promise across slow work, hills, loads and different drivers. Towing at the published maximum calls for a proper trailer, tongue weight and braking plan, and the load changes handling. The 1,500 lb figure is useful because it is a published rating; it does not convert this midsize SxS into a larger hauling vehicle.
Price against the Limited and the Honda alternative
The headline $10,799 MSRP is only a starting figure. Arctic Cat separately shows $1,250 freight and a $500 dealer setup fee; adding those displayed amounts gives $12,549 before taxes, title, registration or other possible charges. Dealer selling prices may differ, so use a written out-the-door quote when comparing alternatives.
The 2027 Prowler 500 Limited starts at $11,999 MSRP, a $1,200 MSRP step. Arctic Cat’s launch release identifies EPS, a 3,000 lb winch, aluminum wheels with Duro tires, a cargo-bed mat and backup lights as Limited upgrades. If you would otherwise pay to install a winch and want power steering, get quotes on both exact trims before ordering accessories for the base vehicle. The Limited’s paint and wheel changes are less important than the equipment you will use.

The base Prowler 500 makes sense for two adults who want a narrower, useful work SxS with real bed and tow ratings, selectable front lock and enough storage for small gear. Its tradeoffs are a manual-steering base trim, no included winch, shortish suspension travel and a final price that rises well beyond MSRP once the listed charges are included. Arctic Cat states the Prowler 500 is for operators age 16 and older; use restraints, protective gear and training, keep both occupants in designated seats, and follow the current manual and labels for loading and off-road use.
