It is not a dressed-down three-seat work UTV and it does not pretend to be a fast sport machine. Its purpose is to get through narrow gates and tight woods, carry what a compact property or camp actually needs, and fit into the kind of storage and transport arrangements that make larger UTVs inconvenient.
For 2026 Honda made the important changes in the places owners will notice. The front and rear final-drive and transmission ratios were revised; Honda says top speed rises 23 percent. Shift mapping was updated, the cabin was revised to reduce heat, and under-seat storage is now standard. Those improvements keep the Pioneer 520’s simple formula intact rather than turning it into a bigger, costlier vehicle.

Honda lists a $10,999 base MSRP and an $885 destination charge. That makes $11,884 before tax, registration, setup, accessories, and dealer-installed equipment. This matters because a compact SxS is often bought for a specific job, then quickly gains a windshield, roof, winch, bed accessories, lights, or a plow. Honda offers more than 50 accessories, but the base price does not include them.
The Pioneer is available in Hero Red, Black Forest Green, and Cactus Green. The basic package already includes hard doors with attached side nets, three-point seat belts, the ROPS structure, a bench seat with individual backrests, and under-seat storage. It is a practical starting point, not a fully accessorized farm package. Price the equipment that will actually be used instead of assuming a catalog photo is standard.
The 50-inch width is the reason to buy one
At 50.0 inches wide, 105 inches long, and on a 73-inch wheelbase, the Pioneer 520 fits a category of access that a conventional 60-plus-inch utility UTV cannot. For a wooded property, a narrow bridge, a width-restricted trail, or a full-size pickup bed, that difference is more valuable than an impressive engine number. Measure the route, the trailer, and the storage opening. If 50 inches solves an access problem, the Pioneer has done something a bigger machine cannot fix with accessories.
There is a tradeoff. The compact chassis has an 8.5-inch clearance, 24-inch tires, and 5.8 inches of front / 5.9 inches of rear suspension travel. Paddle shifts are not a performance gimmick here. They give the driver a useful way to select a lower gear before a descent or hold a gear while pulling. For someone who wants a machine that is easier to control than an on/off utility appliance, the transmission is one of the Pioneer 520’s better features.
Bed, towing, and 4WD: enough for real small-property work
The manual-assist tilt/dump bed measures 25.9 by 38.7 by 9.8 inches and is rated for 450 lb. It is properly useful for firewood, feed, fencing supplies, tools, bags of material, or a couple of coolers. It is not a 1,000-lb work bed, so large landscaping loads and heavy daily hauling need a bigger SxS. The tailgate opens flat and Honda’s Pro-Connect accessories can make the small bed more organized than its size first suggests.
Towing is rated at 1,000 lb through a standard receiver-style hitch. The drivetrain has direct front and rear driveshafts, selectable 2WD/4WD, and a locking front differential. That combination is appropriate for a small trailer, a muddy field approach, or snow work with the right accessory setup. It does not erase the Pioneer’s compact weight and wheelbase; a loaded trailer still demands sane speed, braking room, and careful turning.
Honda lists 1,060 lb curb weight with standard equipment, fluids, and a full tank, plus a 4.1-gallon fuel capacity. Braking is by dual 200mm front discs and a single 170mm rear disc. These are useful, grounded numbers for an owner planning transport and trailer limits. Treat the cab as a two-person workspace, secure loads in the bed, and use seat belts and appropriate training every time the vehicle moves.
